The Chipata high court has sentenced an unlicensed motorist to 12 months imprisonment for causing death by dangerous driving.
Before Lusaka Judge Mwamba Chanda yesterday who is conducting high court sessions in Chipata was George Msoni of Senior Chief Nzamane’s area who readily pleaded guilty to the charge.
Msoni caused the death of Maureen Banda in 2012.
In mitigation, senior legal aid counsel John Phiri says the convict was the first offender who readily pleaded guilty to the charge which was a sign of contrition.
Phiri says the convict helped the deceased family with a coffin and other items at the funeral.
But judge Chanda says she had put into consideration what the defence counsel said in mitigation but that there were aggravating circumstances in the matter.
