SCHOOL GIRLS IN EASTERN PROVINCE TO LAUNCH A CAMPAIGN AGAINST SEXUAL VIOLENCE

Some girls from selected schools in Eastern Province will tomorrow launch a campaign against girl child abuse where the girl child wants to put an end to sexual violence in schools in the region.
Provincial Education Officer Dr Allan Lingambe says the pupils want to send a warning to teachers and other community members that engaging in sexual activities with pupils constitutes a serious offence and should be stopped.
ZANIS Chipata reports that Dr Lingambe says the Province has been recording cases of sexual abuse in some sectors and wants to ensure incidences of sexual abuse in schools do not get out of hand.
He notes that the programme which will be launched tomorrow under the theme, ’Stop sexual abuse, protect the girl child,’ will be replicated in all the districts of the Province.
The Provincial Education Officer says the programme will take place at David Kaunda Stadium and that the girls will displays their petitions.
He notes that the Provincial Minister Makebi Zulu will be the guest of honor at the event.
Eastern Province has recorded some of the highest cases of child marriages and pregnancies in the country.
